From our Chairman:
I will devote this “Chat” to all the people who gave of their time and effort to support our Open Day on 2nd March. As Chairman of your u3a I am so grateful to all of you for your help. It’s not only what you do, but the cheerful atmosphere you all generate while you are doing it, and I’m sure visitors who came along on the day were able to feel this. I’m not sure if we are the friendliest u3a in the country, but I’d like to think we are in the top three.
On the day we had 161 members, + 88 visitors come through the door. Mary was able to sign up 22 new members with several more taking our “Welcome Packs” and I’m certain we will see many more new members as a result of these. Mary also did over 50 renewals and reported to me she was tired at the end of the day, although that was not the word she used!
The active displays from Scottish Country Dancing, the Handbell Ringers, Singing for Pleasure and Tai Chi were lovely, and very well received by everybody. Steve and Clive from the Vintage Cheddar Rock Band made sure there was always some background music playing and deserve my thanks for stamina.
At the end of the day there were plenty of willing hands to help pack it all away and tidy up, so once again a massive thank you to all.
Stop Press:- I've just had an update from Mary and I'm delighted to report that the Open Day has accounted for 42 new members, a big “well done” to all of you.

I hope you are all enjoying the monthly News Bulletins, which have been compiled by Margaret Farnie who has made the format much simpler as a Word Document. Margaret will be standing down in May and I cannot thank her enough for this work. So, if you are literate in Microsoft Word and would like to give a little time to produce this bulletin then please get in touch with me for more details.
We are now well into the Membership Renewal period for 2024 and everybody by now should have received a reminder and forms, either by email, or by post for those of you without email. I know form filling is tedious but please try to make sure that they are completed accurately as this makes the job for Mary, our Membership Secretary, so much easier. Please remember we need a separate form for each member.
