Cheddar Valley

History Groups

Within Cheddar Valley U3A there are three special-interest groups dedicated to history. Please see the main "GROUPS" page of this website to find the days that Groups meet. Please see the "CONTACTS" page of this website to find how to make contact with Group Leaders.

HISTORY GROUP

The History Group meets monthly and informally. The approach is unstructured and thematic and emphasizes the continuum of history and the need to understand the past to inform the present. We are concerned mainly with Western civilizations and members are encouraged to research the evidence, particularly relating to national people and events.

Corfe Castle

BRITISH HISTORY GROUP

The British History Group. We decided to call ourselves “The British History Group” rather than English History so we can include other regions of the British Isles. Although the history of the British Isles is and has been dominated by English History we thought it would be interesting to broaden our knowledge and to include, if required other regions and countries that Britain has been influential and involved with. We encourage members of the group to conduct private research into a topic, but that is not necessary and if you just want to come and listen and learn then that’s OK.

Falkland Palace

INDUSTRIAL HISTORY GROUP

The Industrial History Group organises site visits to places of appropriate interest, while its indoor meetings feature talks on particular aspects of Industrial History.
