PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP

We are a supportive group of enthusiastic photographers, using anything from a mobile phone camera or i-pad, to a sophisticated SLR, who share knowledge and seek to improve our abilities. At present we have 9 members, and meet on a Tuesday morning approximately every 6 weeks in a delightful converted barn in Axbridge, which belongs to one of our members. Each member produces a memory stick, or sends an email of images, which we can then see via computer on to a large TV monitor. Subjects are set for each meeting, which results in praise or constructive criticism. We link in to another u3a group in London, who produce excellent presentations to improve our knowledge and we use archive material if relevant. We have recently spent some time endeavouring to add ‘atmosphere’ to images of buildings, which has proved a challenge. This theme continues and we are collecting a folder together of our best attempts to push up standards.
We also have ‘Safari days.’ We have space for 2-3 new members so don’t be shy, we don’t bite and the coffee and biscuits are always excellent.
If you would like more information, the number is in our news Bulletin. Please call for a chat.

We had a very pleasant meeting followed by lunch at the Greedy Goose in Long Ashton on Tuesday 20th February, when we looked at images taken at the workshop held the previous month. Several members commented on how good images now are when taken on an Apple iphone, or Samsung android, and this will only get better. We will be able to watch a presentation by Mill Hill u3a regarding the impact that AI will have on photography, which is already present on some of
our images.
The next meetings are scheduled for Tuesday March 19th , and Tuesday 7th May. Our venue will be changing, so contact Liz for more information. Robin has decided to leave the group because of family commitments. We would like to thank him very much for his valuable photographic contributions and also for the use of his lovely barn for our meetings and the excellent coffee he provided.
Next subjects include comparing the same image in colour with black and white, continuing with ‘3’ of anything, and any other image we might be pleased with or ‘could do better’. New members welcome at any level.
