Card-Playing And Board Game Groups

Within Cheddar Valley U3A there are several special-interest groups dedicated to the mental challenges of playing card games and board games. Please see the main "GROUPS" page of this website to find the days that Groups meet.

BRIDGE GROUP
Our bridge group meets every Wednesday afternoon. We play two tables taking turns to host in our own homes. We start at 2pm and have a tea break about 3.30pm when we put the world to rights. After that we play until 5pm.

CANASTA GROUPS

Canasta is a partnership game of the Rummy family, and appeals to card players of all skill levels. The game is fast and full of exciting twists and challenges, which has created one of the most fascinating card games ever devised. Canasta may be played by any number of players from two to six.

There are two Canasta Groups, each of which meets twice a month.

Canasta 1

This group is full at present, but there is space for prospective players in the Canasta 2 group.

Canasta 2

We meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursday afternoons in the Schoolroom / Small Hall at the Catholic Church, from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm. We have a mixture of experienced and beginner players. We have enough tables and space for at least another 8 or so new members, so, if you have never played this card game before, do come and give it a go. We usually play in pairs, (randomly picked by choosing a card), but there is always someone more experienced to help if you are new to the game.
Contact Margaret F for further details.

JIGSAW EXCHANGE GROUP

This "Group" does not have regular meetings, but it is an opportunity for members to exchange jigsaws. In the Group Leader's front porch there are two plastic boxes, one containing jigsaws that may be borrowed and one for depositing returned jigsaws. In order to help reduce the spread of coronavirus, returned jigsaws are held for 72 hours before being made available for borrowing.

RUMMIKUB GROUP

Rummikub is a tile-based game that has similarities to the card-game Rummy. This Group meets in Cheddar Library on Monday mornings.

SCRABBLE GROUP

The Scrabble Group is well established and has a regular and enthusiastic membership. The Group normally play two games of competitive but friendly Scrabble with a tea break in between. New members are always welcome and given encouragement and help if required. Why not give our Scrabble group a try - you may love it?!
