A HISTORY OF MIGRATION

A series of meetings reviewing how migration has shaped our world throughout the ages. The Leader’s selection of topics centres on what might be argued as the most essential areas of the topic. The meetings will cover these topics:
1) Prehistoric migration
2) Migration in ancient times up to and including Roman Empire days.
3) Migration in the Middle Ages ( EUROPE and REST OF THE WORLD)
4) Extent and causes for migration to the New World from discovery to20th century: British inspired
migration ….
5) Spanish inspired migration/ Portuguese and Dutch
6) Asian (including Russian) migration….where to and why?
7) The situation in Africa.
8) 20th century European migration, where to, why and effects
9) 20th century migration from Asia and Africa, where to, why and effects.
10) Present day migration – where from, where to, causes and effects.
11) Assessment of contribution of migration to a variety of states: the New Lands; AMERICA, AUSTRALIA and
NEW ZEALAND and SOUTH AMERICA including Carribbean Islands
12) …into AFRICA and ASIA
13) Contribution to European states: Britain, France, Netherlands and Germany
14) Contribution to European states: Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece
15) The response from former Soviet block countries…..and Russia itself.
16) China and Japan
The leader would appreciate people’s individual input/research wherever possible, and discussion is, of course, the most important aspect of these sessions.
The first meeting will be on Thursday 17th March at 10:00am on Zoom, and will meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month thereafter.
