Since lockdown, I have been giving virtual tours on zoom to different groups
I’ve been doing this to keep my brain active, to raise money for blood cancer Uk and to share my love of interesting places to visit

One of my favourite places is Hampstead, just half an hour’s drive from Bushey.
Not only is it an area of outstanding beauty but it boasts two art museums, wonderful areas to walk and has been the home of many famous artists, writers, politicians, actors and many millionaires!

Come on this virtual tour with me and see what this area has to offer you!

Tue Jul 20th Monthly Meeting - On Zoom - 10am. The Speaker will be Dr Helen Fry, by Popular Demand. The subject is “The Secret Service for Escape and Evasion in WWII” You will not want to miss this!

About the Talk
When Allied fighters were trapped behind enemy lines during WWII, one branch of military intelligence helped them escape: it was called MI9. The organization set up secret escape routes that zig-zagged across Nazi-occupied Europe, enabling soldiers and airmen to make their way back to Britain. Agents and resistance fighters in Europe risked their lives and those of their families to hide the men.

Central to MI9’s success were figures such as Airey Neave – the first British prisoner to successfully escape from Colditz. MI9 smuggled gadgets into the camps to help the prisoners to escape.

Helen’s talk sheds light on escape and evasion with the previously untold stories behind the establishment of MI9—and reveals how it saved thousands of Allied lives and contributed to a massive intelligence gathering operation that impacted on the Allies’ ability to turn the tide of the war.
