Spain beyond the costas
Spain beyond the Costas - Sue Clark
Now meeting on-line - ZOOM
The group has been meeting since October 2011. Our aim is to explore the history, politics, geography and culture of Spain including art, cinema, architecture and fiestas.
We have now looked in some detail at the seventeen autonomous regions of Spain and are still finding different topics to discuss, often based on members’ suggestions or questions.
Food is always a subject of great interest and we have developed a pattern of holding a couple of ‘tapas’ evenings per year, either at a local Spanish restaurant or at home, with members trying out their cooking skills on new recipes. The results are always very tasty.
In September 2014 some members of the group went to Valencia to experience first-hand the Spanish way of life that we had talked about in meetings. Madrid was the next destination in September 2015; we went to art galleries, the royal palace and made a day trip to Segovia with its Roman aqueduct. In September 2016 the group went on their travels again, this time to Málaga and Ronda, to explore the 'pueblos blancos' of the inland mountainous region of Andalucía. Another visit to Valencia took place in October 2017, followed by a return to the region of Andalucía and its beautiful capital, Seville in October 2019.
