Crown Green Bowls
Crown Green Bowling - Ken Speakman
The group has started meeting up again even before the season has begun, 1st April 2024 is the official start of the season.
We will once again be bowling at the HASSRA Bowling Green on Anchorsholme Lane, Thornton-Cleveleys FY5 5EE. Meeting on every Monday morning at 09:50 to begin play at 10:00.
We are a friendly bunch who enjoy getting out in the fresh air (when it is not raining) for a bit of exercise and friendly banter and of course a bit of bowling. All standards of players are welcome from the pure beginner to the fully experienced. I do have access to some extra bowls if necessary but having your own is preferential.
One of the first groups to be launched after the creation of Wyre u3a the bowls group has had several 'homes' including, most recently, the HASSRA bowling green during the Bowls 'season'. The group is open to any u3a member whether they have played before or not.
Don't worry if you have never played before - complete beginners or new learners are most welcome and if you fall into this category then one of the more experienced players will spend time with you getting you used to what is, after all a fairly straightforward game (as far as rules go, but quite the opposite when trying to get the woods to go where you want them to.)
We meet on a Monday morning at 09:50 (for a 10:00 start) on the HASSRA bowling green at Norcross. It is not the biggest of greens and has on the odd occasion been overwhelmed by the numbers turning up, but we have always managed to give everyone a game.
You will need your own woods. However, if you are not sure and would like to try out bowls before getting your own - then I have a spare set which you are welcome to borrow. If you do decide to get your own scour the small ads and the free papers - there are usually lots of sets for sale often at very low prices and complete with a carrying case.
