French Conversation

Location: | The Moot, Priory Centre |
Meets: | 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm 2nd & 4th Thursdays of the month. |
The French Conversation group is 5 years old this year and we now have approx. 18-20 Members, which makes for a busy and sometimes noisy class. I believe the Bridge Group meeting in the adjacent room have occasionally be known to raise their eyebrows at the laughter. We are not a group for Beginners, but are actively looking to start one as soon as we can find a Group Leader – anyone interested please contact me or Ian Richardson.
We have made a lot of progress since 2014 and now run a multi- ability group, keeping in tune with good U3A principles and indeed everyone supports each other with any hesitations or lapses of memory with those pesky verbs!
Although our aim is to focus on conversation, we do of course do some grammar to support that. So we now follow a book called Facon de Parler 2 Intermediate as our base and supplement it with a variety of language and cultural activities . These include Word Games , Tongue Twisters, Riddles Crosswords, Dictées, Quizzes etc etc. We continue to make great strides with pronunciation – such that visitors to France have been complemented by the locals on their accent!
Although we meet only twice a month, I am delighted to tell you that the members are very diligent in doing their homework and everybody gets a chance to speak several times in the hour. It is always very relaxed in atmosphere and we support that by enjoying 2 social only Petite Fetes – one for Bastille Day an one for Christmas. Needless to say food and drink are always available then.
Please contact Dot if you would like to come along for a "Look See" by using the Carrier Pigeon symbol on the right and we can take it from there.
