Table Tennis Group
Sale u3a has a table tennis group running at the Sale Leisure Centre. We meet every Thursday at 1.30 till 3.00 pm at the Sale Leisure Centre, first floor – the main sports hall. Just tell the Centre staff at the desk you are here for the u3a table tennis. No need to pay or book.
The u3a has purchased two tables of good quality (Cornilleau 500) which match the two the Centre is providing so we have 4 tables in all. Sale u3a has made up the extra funding so we have purchased bats, balls and table covers as well. The venue is excellent, as are the staff there, and, in addition to the two badminton courts of floor space, we have the exclusive use of a suitable small room to store our two tables etc in.
As the leisure centre is currently only charging us £10 per hour, we get the two courts space and two tables provided, for £15 per session. This enables us to charge members the usual £1 per session.
We play a mixture of singles and doubles depending on the numbers attending. The ability range is also quite mixed with some members having played quite a bit previously and some who are total beginners. It is very much a ‘fun’ session so no previous experience is required. Basic tuition is given to those who have never played before including how to score and how to serve. If you want to play and / or have never played before, please come and join us. As usual, the first session is a ‘taster’ so come and see what we do anyway. A member has taken some photos of us playing at the centre so these also show what the venue is and how we play.
If you are not within easy walking distance, the Leisure Centre has free car parks for participants at both the front (on Broad Road) and at the side (on Woodlands Road). You need to register your car at the Centre as they have number-plate cameras to discourage parking by non-users. There are bus stops on both Broad Road and Woodlands Road and easy access from Sale Metrolink Station. Also Sale has a good shopping centre and plenty of places to eat!
Please note that the Table Tennis Group will continue to play at Sale Leisure Centre throughout August.
