Advanced French
When: 2nd and 4th Thursdays
Time: Usually 10:30am - 12:00ish
Where: The Sanctuary Hub, next to Lymm Library. Occasionally in private homes
Group Leader: Dinah Robertson-Booth
Our aim is to enjoy using French as much as possible, to have fun sharing our knowledge and resources, and to boost our confidence whilst improving our language skills.
If you would like to brush up your French that you learned a long time ago, or keep your more recent learning current, this could be the group for you. Ideally you will have studied French to A level in the past, or acquired a reasonable working knowledge of the language in some other way.
The group is a maximum of 12. We work in a self-help style so that we decide together the areas we would like to cover and everyone contributes.
Options and resources are varied and include:
- Grammar - to revise and refresh
- Vocabulary by topic
- Reading - materials such as newspaper articles, extracts from literature
- Conversation - about aspects of French culture and society, the news
- Films and songs and related discussion
We use a text book called Defi 3, video clips and occasionally other materials which are provided at a modest cost to cover photocopying.
In 2021 we also studied an abridged novel and met on zoom. We might read another novel in future.
Meeting Dates - Dates are advised by e-mail. No meetings in late July or August.
There are currently no places available -contact the Group Leader if you are interested or would like to go onto the waiting list.
