We ride at a pace that ensures that the group stays together

No one will be left behind

The group has been running since June 2017 with the aim of helping with our cycling skills and maintain or improving our health & fitness whilst having fun and enjoying ourselves on our bikes.

Some of our members prefer the traffic free rides along the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT), whilst others enjoyed going a little further afield and exploring little known or used routes.
To accommodate these different preferences, rides of around 12 to 15 miles are offered along the TPT and quiet country roads on the 4th Thursday of each month.
On the 2nd Tuesday of the month we venture further afield, completing anywhere up to 40 miles.

Both of the rides will have a cafe stop at around the halfway point for us to refuel, relax and have a chat.

Ride details will appear in the events list below and on our Facebook events page, they will also be forwarded to members who have registered with the group.

Rides tend to start from the Trans Pennine Trail Ranger Station on Statham Avenue, Lymm, but we do occasionally start from other locations around the Lymm & Thelwall area.
Starting from the TPT Ranger Station gives members who live further away the opportunity to travel by car and park there if they wish to do so.

To join any of the rides please contact the Cycle Group Leader who will be able to supply any additional information you require.

For those of you who would like to learn a little more about how your bike works, basic maintenance skills and hints & tips to get yourself home if something goes wrong, please visit our Cycle Maintenance group page.

If you would like ideas for routes to continue your personal cycling, please contact the Cycle Group Leader who will be able to supply route details around the area.

Please bring your membership card to all u3a events.

Dates for your Diary
Thu Apr 25th This is one of our shorter rides of around 12 miles in length starting at 10:00am from the TransPennine Trail Ranger Station on Statham Avenue, Lymm.
The route will take us through the village centre, up Rectory Lane and out to Crouchley Lane.
It is then a meander around Deansgreen to Swineyard Lane and Moss Lane leading to our cafe stop at High Legh Garden Centre.
After refreshments we continue through High Legh village, Wrenshot Lane, Broad Oak Lane and on to Peacock Lane to head back through Deansgreen. It is then onward to Lymm village centre and return to the start point at the Ranger Station.

Full route details & elevation profile will be sent to group members once the route has been planned.

Please contact the Cycle Group leader if you would like more details or to join the group.
Tue May 14th This will be one of our longer rides, of around 28 miles in length, out to Broadheath, starting from the Trans Pennine Trail Ranger Station on Statham Avenue, Lymm at 10:00am.

The route will take us along the TPT to Heatley where we travel a few lanes to reach Little Bollington and our first climb of the day.
This “incline” up Reddy Lane takes us into Millington and onto another climb up Millington Lane to reach Rostherne village.
From here we continue on towards Tatton Park entrance, but turn left and enjoying the downhill of Ashley Lane. In Ashley Village we turn towards Hale, around Bowden and Altrincham to arrive at our cafe stop in Broadheath.
Most of the climbing has now been completed so after enjoying the comfy sofa’s of the cafe stop we can start our “almost flat” return journey.
This is via a circuitous route around Broadheath to Dunham Town and onward towards Lymm, via Warburton and Heatley, back to our start point.
There are some new lanes & roads on this routes, and it is only the second time we have use this cafe stop!

Full route details & elevation profile will be sent to group members about a week before the ride.

Please contact the Cycle Group leader if you would like to join the Cycling Group.
