Art Appreciation

Our newly formed Heathfield Art Appreciation group met for the first time in March 2023 with a meet and greet at Noakes cafe in Heathfield. Following on from this we set monthly meetings starting in April when we all spoke briefly about a favourite piece of art. It was a really interesting meeting with so much variety, for example, a personal miniature painted by an artistic friend to pottery. We continued this theme for our May meeting. In June we decided to focus now on a famous artist and chose Pablo Picasso. Each member presented different aspects of his life, for example, Picasso's early years, his stage designs and his sculptures, we followed this up in July with Picasso's interest in African Masks, cubism, later life and a look at Guernica. There is always lots of discussion and comments. We are all learning so much.

We meet on the first Friday in the month and rotate the venue within member’s homes, where possible.

Our next meeting will be at 10.30am on Friday 1st September.

The group welcomes new members, whatever your background and experience.
If this is something which appeals to you, come and join us, please contact the group leader Therese Larum for more information.

APRIL and MAY 2023
As this was our first time together, we decided, to help the group establish, we would all bring to this meeting a piece of Art of our choice.
We gave some thoughts and comments about our selection and allowed room for members to comment.
This could be brought along as a photograph of your chosen artwork, an image in a book, a copy/original piece of Art work, whatever you would like to share. This piece might be one with memories associated, by an Artist whose work you enjoy, dislike, know lots about or nothing at all.

MARCH 2023
This was our initial meeting where members came together to discuss how they want the group to run, when and where to start.
Ideas included:
- members reading and researching artists/paintings/styles etc and coming together to discuss these at meetings.
- sharing experiences
- visits
Lots of ideas were put forward with regards to a programme of study and also the way to structure our sessions together.
At our meeting in April we aim to create a master plan! There is the flexibility to mould the group around ability and interests, enabling members to shape the group going forwards?
