Guidance for GROUP LEADERS
USING THIS WEBSITE AND BEACON - A NOTE FOR GROUP LEADERS
This is YOUR website. It is YOUR window on the world. Today's retiring population are all thoroughly experienced in using the Internet, the World Wide Web, personal computers and email.
You have a responsibility to keep the data on your group page meaningful, up to date attractive and interesting.
So each group page should "sell the sizzle" for your group. Group leaders are heard to complain that their group is full and can take no more members. Great! So split the group into two fresh groups. Without an attractive presence on the internet we are in a position to attract neither new members nor new group leaders. Your free text (like this) can introduce links to other exciting entries and to photographs, or even videos. If you need any help or would like it done for you, just email the WEBMASTER and watch it all happen!
MEMBERSHIP OF MY U3A GROUP - USE BEACON
All Group leaders have been given a Beacon System User ID and password. You can check or change the membership of your group from the Beacon system. Just log into Beacon with your System User ID and then select your group. The link is here ==> Log in to Beacon
If you have forgotten your login details, please contact John Wells to reset it for you
LOOKING AFTER YOUR GROUP'S WEB PAGE
No problem! You can be set up to add, remove or edit your own group page on the website. So as group leader you will be able to upload photos and documents such as newsletters, or reports on your group's activities. Just contact Webmaster John Wells by email, phone or in writing if you would like to take the reins of control! You will be told how and where to edit your very own page.
And if you ever forget where to go, the link is ==> u3asites.org.uk/code/login.php
STARTING OR CHANGING GROUPS
Every group has both a page on our website and a group page in our Beacon Membership system. To see what is involved, either on the website or in the Beacon system, please follow the two links below:
MANAGING GROUP - A CHECK LIST - APPLIES TO BEACON AND YOUR WEB PAGE
CHANGE OF GROUP DETAILS - EXISTING GROUPS
If anything concerning the group changes you must advise the changes to the GROUPS COORDINATOR and the MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY. For example please notify us if you change time, date or place of meeting on anything other than a temporary basis. A change of GROUP LEADER is also an important issue.
CHANGING YOUR ADDRESS, EMAIL ID, PHONE OR MOBILE DETAILS
- Any personal details from any member need initially to be dealt with in the Beacon Membership system. Please contact the MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY
- Group Leaders must also promptly advise any personal information changes to the WEBMASTER.
CLOSING A GROUP
If the group appears to be faltering, or if the venue ceases to be available, or your personal circumstances change, don't immediately decide to close the group.
It may well be that your group could find another venue or amalgamate with an allied group. Or perhaps you can find a replacement group leader. Discuss problems openly with your group and keep the GROUPS COORDINATOR advised.
