Geology for Beginners
This group meets on the fourth Monday of each month. 1PM - 3 PM
No previous knowledge needed. There is a story in every rock if we can see it. Why are there so many different types of rocks? How do mountains grow and wear away? How have scientists worked out that Scotland was once south of the equator? How is our landscape made? These are just some of the questions we’ll try to answer. This group offers a very basic introduction to geology. We’ll be looking at rocks and landscapes to explore and understand some of the events in the history of the Highlands,
Scotland and the Earth. On short outings or local walks, you’ll learn to see the evidence for yourself. Strictly no mountain climbing, rock hopping or hard hats. All welcome whether you are a rock novice or already have some knowledge, please come and share it with the group. If weather is against us, there is still plenty to think about, and besides, I have lots of rocks to look at, perhaps over a coffee.
Venues will vary. Contact Terri Cunningham for details. (Click on the blue bird!)
