Local History Group 3
This group is only open to current Members of the Belper and District u3a.
Our meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 10:30am.
A social meeting is held at the end of the year to discuss ideas and plan the programme.
We investigate the local history of Belper and the surrounding area through guided walks, PowerPoint presentations and visits.
Presentations are usually given at Strutts Community Centre in room 14. For the majority of events, we arrange to meet up at a specific venue.
This area has a fascinating history to uncover from the earliest settlements through the industrial age to the present day.
Examples of topics we have already explored:-
Strutt family and their houses;
Mills and industrial heritage;
Roman heritage;
Mediaeval heritage;
Military history;
