This group is only open to current Members of the Belper and District u3a.
New Members welcome
Local History Group 1 meet on the 1st Monday of each month in the afternoon at group members' houses with occasional visits to places of interest.
Our aim is to research the history of Belper and surrounding areas and there are no costs involved with this group.
In 2011 and 2012 we did some research into the history of Belper market place and have presented these to local W.I.'s; Rotary Club as well as our U3A.
During 2013 we carried out a study of Belper street names and in 2014 began an archaeological investigation to find the site of Belper Manor House.
Other previous activities have included:
- Interesting sessions on Family History and Bakers Hill in Heage
- A visit to Darley Abbey.
- A special meeting looked at the Normans in Derbyshire.
- A visit to Wingfield Manor in South Wingfield, Derbyshire.
- Some shared talks and visits with the other Local History group.
