Historic Churches

There are some amazing ancient Churches in Oxfordshire, with a rich history and amazing works of art, particularly in the form of sculptures - memorials of various kinds, carved wood in screens, chairs and other furniture. Often their sculptures are completely ignored.

So the proposal is to visit some of these - need not be just the Anglican ones (or Christian either) - Some played a significant part in English History - Civil War and the like - Edward the Confessor was born in Islip!

I am far from an expert, so with luck, some churches will be able to organise guides or maybe our members know about / will do some research and lead on a particular church - if not then we can reconnoiter the churches in advance, find out if there's a history leaflet or similar

We can aim for 1 per month, most likely will need to be by car (car share possible) and optional finish with Lunch in a pub or similar.

First meeting will be 10:30 am Thurs 18th May.
