Kilmersdon2

Tuesday 9th April – Kilmersdon

Walk Leaders: Patsy & Michelle

Description We will head south out of Kilmersdon up a steady ascent, (230’) through Walton Farm to Cherry Gardens Farm, along lanes eastwards toward Newbury House, across fields to the front drive of Babington House, out onto a busy road to cross the railway path. Travelling in a south easterly direction we walk alongside the disused railway until we can join the railway path leading back to Kilmersdon.

Report
On a very windy day we set off through the village and up Hoares Lane which was more sheltered than the original planned route. At Luckington Cross we turned eastward passing Newbury House School. We had a fine view towards Ammerdown column where we had walked in March. Our coffee stop was on the track leading to Babington House. Here we heard about the change of use from private house to up market hotel. We walked down the drive and then across a field to reach a normally busy road which was unusually traffic free. The path back to Kilmersdon along the old railway track was sheltered and we were fortunate to stay dry. We all enjoyed a good lunch at the Jolliffe Arms. Thank you Patsy and Michelle for organsing this scenic walk.
