Winscombe

Monday 26th March – Winscombe

Walk Leaders: Bleddyn & Michelle

Description Making an attempt to combine a social walk and one of our regular walks.

The regular walk starts from Winscombe and goes through some lovely countryside with good views of the area. A small climb gives views farther afield over the Bristol channel. Towards the end we walk through some interesting woods and then finish with around a mile on the Strawberry Line.

The social walk starts from the same point , A brief walk down the high street and then onto the strawberry line. You can walk either way but going North is nicer. Walk as far as you wish then turn round. There are plenty of benches and picnic tables to stop at. There are some lovely cafes in Winscombe including the Strawberry Line cafe which has great cakes.

Report
Thirteen walkers set off on the main walk. Rain was promised but luckily none came.
When I did the recce it was reasonably firm underfoot but in some parts it had become muddy and slippery. Walked through some pleasant countryside and had coffee on some benches near Shipham village hall. Good floor for dancing apparently.

Had a bit of a climb which didn’t go down well with some people but we were rewarded with fine views over the Bristol Channel. Too misty to see Wales unfortunately. We then entered Sandford Wood where it was very muddy. Also a gentle downward slope which was fine the previous week but caused people some problems. As a result it took a lot longer than expected and I had to rearrange the lunch times with the pub. Got to the Strawberry Line and nice to be on firm ground.

Six people did the social walk along the Strawberry Line which they seemed to enjoy. All met up in the Woodborough Inn for lunch. It’s a great pub run by very nice people. Food was good and reasonably priced. We should try and use again.
