Walk Leaders: Bob & Pat

Description From Compton Dundon up to the Polden ridge and descending to the Somerset Levels

Report
Fifteen walkers met at the Castlebrook Inn kitted out for rain. Despite a gloomy foerecast we were blessed with warm sunshine. We set off up the lane towards the Hood Monument passing a photo shy alpaca .The route took us across Collard Hill where we had views of the Tor and PenHill to the north and south to the Blackdown Hills. We heard about a Thomas Hardy poem, blue butterflies and the Hood Monument. Descending to Marshall's Elm was muddy but once over the busy road we were on a quiet lane . Our coffee stop was at Ivythorn Manor where the verges were a mass of crocuses and narcissi. Crossing fields and a slippery plank we headed back towards Compton Dundon with views along the ridge to Walton Hill windmill. There were lambs in the fields and at the end of our walk we went along the old church path which runs from the village to Dundon Church. Here there were donkeys and more alpacas. We had a good lunch and our thanks to Bob and Pat for a wonderful springtime walk.
