What an absolutely beautiful day to go for a walk – my thanks go to Audrey and Lynn. Although it was a cold day it was bright and no muddy boots to clean at the end. We started and ended at Wells Golf Club and walked into Wells along a tarmac path with the cathedral gradually coming into view – such a well known sight but breathtaking in the winter sun. The walk passed beside the Moat at the Bishops Palace where we paused catching our first sight of early snowdrops and admiring the yellow wagtail and swans dipping into the water. We continued then along the Palace Farm Road to the Strawberry Line pathway where we were in for a treat – Nicky had kindly brought along apple muffins which were delicious, a perfect coffee stop! Upon reaching Dulcote we stopped by the frozen fountain where Audrey told us some very interesting facts about the history of the village. More spectacular views of the Cathedral and Tor greeted us along the Wells path with another short stop for a rest by the Moat before heading back. We were making good time, it had been an easy pace with plenty of time to take in the scenery and enjoy each others company. The last lap was taking the path by Tor Hill and then back for a welcome lunch at the Golf Club. I had made it five and a half miles but others had clocked up different mileage – however it didn’t matter as I know we all enjoyed the walk and I will look forward to the next one. We had one new member who had joined us and I tried to convince her that all our walks were as good with no mud and good weather but that remains to be seen!!!
