Farrington Gurney

Tuesday 21st November – Farrington Gurney

Walk Co-ordinators: Patsy, Caroline & Stuart

We will set off at 09.45 from the Farrington Inn Pub garden.

We head out along Pitway Lane then beside the A37 in a southerly direction and turn West towards Hollow Marsh, heading for Chewton Wood which we pass through to a track which takes us towards Litton. We walk for a little way along a narrow road and pick up Hollow Marsh Lane. This leads us beside Long Dole wood, through the Hollow Marsh Nature Reserve, and onto Pitway Lane. We follow this back to the A37 and the pub. We retrace our steps on Pitway lane in order not to go over the newly ploughed fields. There is one slight ascent in the woods, and a short stretch on a lane at the Litton end of the walk. 5.5 miles and only 1 stile.

Report
Thirteen walkers and Lottie met at Farrington Gurney on a dry morning, welcome after the rain in recent days.

We walked along the lane past a Christmas tree farm and then turned south through Chewton Wood with a mixture of trees showing their autumn colours. Here we encountered the first mud and lots of puddles.

We continued along a track towards Litton and then turned north on a country road. The next section was very muddy and we were glad of waterproof trousers and gaiters but we had been warned.

We then went through the nature reserve at Hollow Marsh, finally retracing our steps along Pitway Way to the Inn. One very muddy dog was in need of a bath!

Thanks to Patsy, Stuart and Caroline for a super walk.
