Second walk in Compton Dando

Tuesday 26th September – Compton Dando

Walk Co-ordinators: Mair & David

The walk is just over 5 miles, heading out along the river Chew from Compton Dando north towards Keynsham. At Chewton Keynsham we head west up a tarmac lane to a byway along a ridge, heading south to Charlton Field, and with views out to Bristol and the Severn bridge. There is a little road walking which will need care and single file for about 300 yards before we turn down Slate Lane. Through Wooscombe Wood and across fields till we pick up the bridle way and make our way up to a lane and back to Compton Dando, Via a foot bridge and the Church. (A repeat of the July walk)

Report

On a day that started with heavy rain five walkers gathered at the Compton Inn and watched with pleasure as the clouds dispersed and the sun came through - and stayed with us, not too hot plus a pleasant breeze.

The walk took us mainly through fields and woodland with the trees just beginning to turn to their Autumn colours. Along the ridge there were many lovely views towards Keynsham, Bristol and the Welsh mountains as well as more local valleys and villages. Some substantial puddles following the heavy rain but all could be carefully skirted around and surprisingly little mud. One very ‘interesting’ steep and slippery descent but we all stayed upright. All in all a most delightful walk.
