Yeo Valley Loop

Wednesday 26th April – Yeo Valley Loop

Walk Markers: Audrey & Lynn

A flat 5 mile walk starting from Cheddar. The route takes us a short distance through the town to The River Yeo and then continues along beside the river. We cross the B3151 road with care and continue beside the river until we reach Stubbington Drove and head back toward the reservoir and round the south side heading back into Cheddar. There are some muddy patches, a lot of Bristol Gates and a couple of awkward stiles. We may come across cattle in the fields. Meet at The Bath Arms at 9.30 am. Public Toilets available a short distance away.

All used for today’s walk description.

Today 21 walkers assembled at the pub car park, but where was number 22 and the walk researcher? Well, back marker, Lynn. had become front marker, and Michelle had been newly appointed as back marker, wretched Covid rearing its ugly head, but first-rate organisation meant we were able to get away in good time.

The description of the walk was correctly communicated with a little mud at the beginning, a flat walk along the river Yeo. Lynn had done her homework and before we set off, gave us an admirable resumé of the history of the area we were walking in. The hazard, which we had been warned about at the beginning, was superbly managed. Cars were halted while walkers crossed the Wedmore road with an awkward stile on either side.

The weather was obligingly dry and, though cool at the start, warmed up. We even had a little sunshine to enhance the brilliant views across the water to intriguing houses with boats in their front gardens ready to launch; the Mendips were all along one side with Cheddar Gorge very distinct.

Running a little ahead of time, the pub was contacted twenty minutes out. Timing therefore, was tremendous, arriving back at 12.30. The staff at the Bath Arms took our drinks orders and ushered us to our table as the food was already coming out of the kitchen, which was exceptional service.

All in all, an excellent outing – well run with quick service and good food. Very well done Lynn (Audrey) and Michelle – thank you all.
