Wedmore walk

Tuesday 28th February – Wedmore

Walk Leaders: Bleddyn & Michelle

A flat pleasant 5.6 mile walk with good views over to the Mendip. 22 stiles. We start in Wedmore Golf Club. Take public footpath through the course, then via fields and lanes to Ashton windmill where we have a coffee stop. Then head south to Wedmore on quiet lanes passing through some nice villages. From Wedmore we return through field paths to the Golf Club. The restaurant has great food and prices are very reasonable. On Tuesday they do two courses for £8.99.

Report
Those walking met at Wedmore Golf Club at 9.00, for a 9.15 start.

Again we were blessed with a fine day, though cloudy and a comfortable temperature for walking. Indeed, quite spring like. 19 took part in the walk.

It was a fairly level walk and the going was good for most of the time, but with a muddy path through hedges which were close together, but not too wet, in the early part in the walk.

The coffee break was at Aston Windmill, with plenty of seats for those who decided they needed to have a sit down. The walk continued across fields and with some quiet road walking. An offer was made for those who wanted to take a shorter way back to the Golf Club, but no one took advantage of this offer and everyone decided to do the whole walk. There were 22 stiles on the walk, all of them well constructed, but so many that some of the group found them challenging before the end.

When everybody arrived back at the Club House the Food and Service provided was excellent and we all went home feeling comfortably replete and well-watered by the Club. Thanks were given to the staff who served us.

Overall it was an enjoyable morning out with some very pleasant views across this part of central Somerset.
