From The White Hart Pub we climb Lodge Hill passing the ruins of Cary Castle at the summit ! we have excellent views (on a clear day) across and beyond the Mendip Hills. We join the Macmillan Way/The Monarch Way and the Leland Trail across fields and down on to Newt land we continue through Galhampton we cross the main A359 twice on our walk returning to the pub via South Cary. A 5 mile walk.

Report
The forecast was not good for our walk in Castle Cary. 14 brave walkers dressed for the rain but fortunately it never came to much until we were safely sat in the pub having our lunch. Another lucky walk.

We were all early so able to set off at 9.45. We walked through the town to pick up the footpath beside The George heading up for a fairly steep climb up Lodge Hill. Wonderful views back across Castle Cary and beyond where the dark clouds seemed to be gathering.

It was extremely windy when we got to the viewing platform and there was a little rain in the air. We continued along the ridge then descended gradually towards the Galhampton road. Having crossed the road we picked up the Leland Trail, Monarchs Way and Macmillan Way, stopping for coffee before tackling the muddy lane towards Galhampton. Then on across the fields back towards Castle Cary with the wind behind us. There was far less mud than we had expected as we crossed the fields. The walk was 4.7 miles and enjoyed by all. The White Hart served our pre-ordered food very promptly. A good walk. Thank you, Keith and John. Report by Nicky
