Rowberrow walk October

Tuesday 25th October – Rowberrow

Walk Leaders: John W and Allan

A five mile walk starting from The Swan Inn, Rowberrow. From a fairly high starting point we climb to the top of Black Down (height approx. 1000 ft) but gradients are not demanding apart from maybe 3 short sections.

The intrepid band set off punctually from The Swan Inn on a surprisingly warm October morning. Climbing up through the woods with lovely autumnal colours on a rocky path. Woods gave way to heathland at the top of Black Down where stunning views to the Severn Bridge and Wales were enjoyed.

Then it was downhill most of the way with rocky paths so care was needed. Peter slipped whilst crossing a stream and landed on his back! A brief sharp climb up a tarmac path brought us back to the hostelry. Sadly, the prebooking of meals was ineffective, and we waited ages for the food. This was the only downside of what otherwise was a most enjoyable expedition. Thank you John and Allan
