Croscombe Walk

Wednesday 31st August – Croscombe

Walk Leaders: Patsy & Margaret

This walk was last walked in August 2014 and has been walked in both directions. A 5.5 mile walk starting from Fayreway in Croscombe. We will cut through to cross the A371 and continue up a path to Old Street, then across a track towards Duncart Lane, across the Old Wells Road, through Dungeon Farm towards Friar’s Oven. Down Knowle Hill through Knowle Farm to Stoodly Bridge. Along Mill Lane to North Town, then round Park Wood beside Cross Farm, where there were some young cattle, up around Worminster Sleight crossing the dismantled railway, the last climb is up Church Hill and down Old Street into Croscombe.

Report
Unlucky for some but not the 13 walkers who joined Patsy and Margaret on a very pleasant five and a half mile walk above and around Croscombe. We met in Fayre Way on a sunny morning with perfect walking conditions. The walk took us up and down (quite a few times ) on good paths and tracks and on the way spoilt us with wonderful views of the Somerset countryside and Croscombe village. Patsy gave us some interesting facts about Croscombe church.

We went through Dungeon Farm to Stoodly Bridge and had our coffee break by the River Redlake, a peaceful spot. We saw cattle, grazing sheep and two very good looking Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs. With more up and downs we went up and around Worminster Sleight and crossed the dismantled railway line before returning to Croscombe. Our walk ended at the George Inn where we enjoyed an excellent lunch sat outside in the sunshine.
Thanks to Patsy and Margaret for organising a very enjoyable walk.
