Hinton Blewett and Litton Reservoir

Friday 4th March – Hinton Blewett

Walk Leaders: John L & Keith

Best described as a reasonably challenging walk. Quite steep down hill section and moderately steep climb back up to pub. The walk is just under 5 miles.

We leave the pub and walk through west end of village, past St Margarets church and into fields down a steepish path downhill to Lower Litton Reservoir. We follow the track alongside the water to the Upper Reservoir where we stop for coffee break. Setting off again we walk alongside the water before turning off through Shortwood Common past Shortwood Farm through fields where we cross a lane (care needed here) and join Hollow Marsh lane (no traffic) making our way uphill back to the pub. Moderate steep climb up hill.

Report
Thirteen walkers met in Hinton Blewett, surprised to have such a clear blue day. We set off with extensive views over the Chew Valley before dropping steeply down to the Coley reservoirs, forerunners of the Chew Valley lake, the dam wall of the upper reservoir providing a convenient seat for our coffee stop.

The fields were very muddy and our way home was now uphill but the route was mostly gentle and the views attractive in all directions. We were made very welcome for lunch at the Ring O' Bells. Many thanks to John and Keith for leading such an exhilarating walk.
