Wookey and Henton Walk

Wednesday 19th January – Wookey & Henton

Walk Leaders: Bleddyn & Michelle

A rather drizzly start from the car park of The Pheasant in Wookey, but it brightened up a little later. Good turnout of twenty people. Crossed the busy road and through some fields, crossed the river Axe and came to the ‘Short Ford’. Along the lane and into the goat farm where we were met by the owner. We all went into a barn and saw the goats and a couple of donkeys. Along the lane and walked along the ‘Long Ford’. Came to a junction of lanes by the river and sat on the walls to have our coffee. A little early but a good spot.

Through some fields past the motorbike scrambling hill and emerged by the road at Henton church. Here we lost a couple of walkers who decided to walk back along the road. Climbed the hill behind Henton and had some great views over to Glastonbury and Wells. A little misty though. Returned along some lanes passed the vineyard and back to the Pheasant.

A lovely walk but difficult in places and rather high scoring on the mudometer! There were 12 stiles and some of those were very tricky for some people (there may be a prize for the most difficult stile at the end of the year). Lunch at the Pheasant was simple pub grub but was excellent.
