Second MEETING OF COMEDY GROUP meeting in Wheelhouse
It has been suggested we bring titbits and get dressed up ~ this idea is optional (But I'm doing both)
It has been suggested that, since we are one of the youngest groups, we should invited the group coordinator, Sandra Graham,to our meeting so she can see, first hand, what we are up to and maybe encourage membership.

I will have an attendance form for you to sign in line with U3A Health and Safety requirements.

2) Should Day, time, venue for meetings be changed (At least two members can not make the current meetings)
3) Format for future meetings (several topics for the group have been suggested. Members have expressed a desire to have “games” at the meetings. One suggestion is that format should alternate each month :- Month one : discussion of an activity / Month two: Game / Month three : Discussion of another activity Month four :Game ….. and so on ...
4) Group provides the entertainment for Christmas 2024 (As an alternative to “Speaker” ( and amendment to this is The group takes over the whole meeting and turns it into “The Meeting That Went Wrong”)
5) Any other Business followed by

Attendance :- Venue changed to STELLA as Wheelhouse was unavailable. Small attendance so no records kept but good meeting enjoyed by all.

At the last meeting several ideas for group activities were suggested and discussed.
Most of these are listed below (Please let me know of any ommissions) and may be reveiwed at future meetings.

1) "Read" the script of a short comedy play at the meeting.
2) “Who's Line is it anyway”
3) “Just a minute”
4) “Stand up routine” similar to TV program “Live at the Apollo”
5) “Joke Writing” someone writes a “Joke” and the others then help to develop/improve/alter it until a “Good” joke was created.
6) “Write a Play” ~ some ideas for future play/sketches might include
7) “The Committee Meeting” ~ a play with characters based on WV U3A committee meetings. “Checkouts” ~ a play based on a supermarket checkouts.

9) “Change of Character” Comedy based on how out of character moments can br funny. example “Sweet Little old lady who turns out to be a cursing, swearing bully”
10) Out of Context “Catch Phrase” humour. examples “Ethnic Minority gent who sold carpets on Queyside saying In “Geordie” “I'm sick to my life with this”. “Non-local resident making a statement using local dialect”.“Generational Comedy” ~ example “Younger generations attitude to Adults and sex” and vice versa.“National Humour” different attitudes to humour by different nationalities.(Germans have no snse of humour)

13) “Circular Humour” A stand-up routine or sketch that starts with a theme then moves on to different topice but completes a “circle” by returning to the original theme.

Appendix 2
Rules or guidance :-
1. “Speak for a minute on ...” ~ this is a little like “J.A.M.” but without the “Hesitation, Deviation, Repetition,” interruptions .....
This can be a team or individual game.
The Time Keeper (TK) is in complete control (Referee, Judge, Jury)
Two Team Game :-
“Running order” and “Teams” are selected by lot. (The first out is first speaker and captain of team 1 : The second out is second speaker and captain of team 2: The Third out is third speaker and second member of team one … etc … etc). If agreed the TK can be included as a speaker …. when it is their turn TK duties are passed to another suitable person.
The TK allows the first contestant to choose a subject from the selection pile …. They can be given a choice of up to four ) and asked to speak for one minute on the subject.
The Contestant has the opportunity to read the options and select one.
They make their selection known to the TK.
The Time Keeper says
“You are to speak on *Choosen subject*.”
They must start immediately after this statement is made.
If they don't start quickly it moves to next player (With new subject).
The TK can decide to move to the next contestant if there is to much hesitation. The contestant only gets the points they have accummulated at the time.....
If they make 30 secs (1point) 40 secs (2 points) 50 secs (3 points 1 minute (4 points + bonus).
The TK may award up to one extra point if they thing the “Talk” deserves it for humourous content or oher factor.
