Third MEETING OF COMEDY GROUP meeting in The Stella

15th Feb 2024 at noon (12:00 hrs) in The Stella Pub.(note Stella does not supply Tea or Coffee)
I will have an attendance form for you to sign in line with U3A Health and Safety requirements.

Format for meeting: Business Matters ~ Then If time permits ~ Game ~ Would I Lie to You. ~ (based on TV program I have (and hope you will as well) prepared a few statements which I will present. You, by means of questioning me, must decide if the statements are true or false. Then on to next presenters statement etc.)
1) Matters Arising
2) Should Day, time, venue for meetings be changed (At least two members can not make the current meetings)
3) This item may be better included as Matters Arising ~ It has been suggested that Group provides the entertainment for Christmas 2024 U3A Meeting. (As an alternative to “Speaker”)
4) It has been suggested that we consider inviting “Music Group” ( a group not yet formed but at the stage of gauging interest) to join with our group to form a group “Comedy and Music Group.
5) Any other Business followed by

Third MEETING OF COMEDY GROUP meeting in The Stella
MINUTES :-
Meeting :- 15th Feb 2024 : Venue :- The Stella : Time :- 12:00 noon

Small attendance (First meeting of 2024) so meeting took the form of an informal discussion.
It was felt that the Group still hadn't found its “PRIME MOTIVIATING FACTOR” (PMF) but we are having fun meeting once a month to search for it.
We'll, eventually, find it and then, with a few more members the group will “set off to the stars and beyond”
Some thought a different day /time of the month might be more suitable and attract more members. However, we couldn't recommend an alternative.
We need to recruit more members.... One group member suggested that we go recruiting by “Rifle Shooting” ~ that is, go looking for potential members by targeting people we know, personnally, who are not yet members of u3a and convince them to join the organisation so they can then join our group. (however, it must be remembered, that according to some of our main committee, WV u3a are not actively seeking new members at this time)
There is still interest in the suggestion that this group volenteers to provide the entertainment for the “Christmas u3a Main Meeting”. It was decided to make this an agenda topic at each meeting with a view to submitting a plan to the WV u3a committee in the near future.
ACTION POINTS FROM MEETING :-
1) Keep meeting once a month to search for the group PMF (everybody)
2) Try to recruit more members from within our own u3A (ask group co-ordinator to send email to all members and mention group at next main meeting)
3) Try to recruit more members from our associated u3a groups (ask main committee for advice on best way to canvas other u3a)
4) Try to convince non-members of u3a to join with a view to joining our group (everybody)
5) Schedule next meeting as normal but try to come up with alternative dates /times that might accommodate potential new members.
6) KEEP LOOKING FOR OUR P.M.F.
After formal part of the meeting we had a game of “Truth or Lie” in which, in turn, each one made interesting statements about themselves. Then the others, by means of questioning tried to decide if the statement was true of false.
If you were not there you will have to decide for yourself if the statements were true of false
We found out that :-
1) Alys had a friend, who had a horse which gave its name to an annual race at Hexham~ The Tant Pis Handicap Chase.
2) Alys, when a Driving instructor, gave lessions to a pregant woman who, althought she never passed the test, helped a mass murderer to escape from Durham prision.
3) John highjacked a van and later received a summons for so doing.
4) John was ignored by two Priests when he was lying in a sleeping bag as a homeless man outside their Chapel.
5) George, after losing his driving license for three years for drink/driving offense, continued to drive 30,000 miles a year as a company car driver. During that time he was involved in at least two serious road accidents where the police attended but he was never called to task.
6) George once made “Herman's Hermits”, a famous pop group, wait in line to be served in a fish and chip take away shop. This meant they were 1.5 hours going on stage to do a concert in a hall where over 2000 people were waiting.
The game was enjoyed by all (including several spectators who arrived for reading group.)
