2. 1st meeting 16 Nov 2023 Minutes

MINUTES :-
Meeting :- 16 Nov 2023 : Venue :- Wheelhouse Pub : Time :- 12:00 noon
Attendance :-Angie Brown : George Dickey :John Edwards : Ian McIntosh : Alys Rennie : Margaret Rowan : Terry Wyatts : Cath Mills
Apologise : Chrispin Welby : Peter Wilkinson
Really interesting meeting with everyone contributing. The meeting was an informal chat with many ideas about the future of the group.
It was felt that future meetings could take the form of “Business Matters” (attendance, Apogolise, U3A business etc) followed by an Activity. Some activities were discussed
Each member had ideas for activities for the group and these were discussed in turn...
John :- A version of “Who's Line is it anyway” or “Just a minute” ~ Some members had not heard of “J.A.M.” GD said he would download an episode later. Several felt this a good game and felt we should try a version at a future meeting.
Cath :- Members could do a stand up routine similar to Tv program “Live at the Apollo”
Ian :- interested in “Joke Writing” someone could write a “Joke” and the others could then help to develop/improve/alter it until a “Good” joke was created.
Angie:- Plays ~ some ideas for future play/sketches might include “The Committee Meeting” ~ a play with characters based on WV U3A committee meetings : “Checkouts” ~ a play based on a supermarket checkouts.
Also suggested a game based on “If I weren't on a stage ….” Again some didn't know this so if possible it might be downloaded and shared.
Alys :- Comedy based on “Change of Character” Example “Sweet Little old lady who turns out to be a cursing, swearing bully”
Cath :- Out of Context “Catch Phrase” Example “Ethnic Minority gent who sold carpets on Queyside saying In “Geordie” “I'm sick to my life with this”.
Cath :- Generational Comedy ~ Example “Younger generations attitude to Adults and sex” and vice versa
General :- “National Humour” different attitudes to humour by different nationalities.
“Male / female Humour” male and females have different attitudes to humour.
“Speak for a minute on ...” ~ this is a little like “J.A.M.” but without the “Hesitation, Deviation, Repetition,” interruptions ..... A member is given a subject and asked to speak for one minute on the subject. They must start immediately they are given the subject. If they don't start quickly it moves to next player (With new subject) If they make 30 secs (1point) 40 secs (2 points) 50 secs (3 points 1 minute (4 points + bonus).
Other ideas were discussed and may be revised later.
Any other Business :-
GD said a couple of members had mentioned “The Three Thursday” in the month was not most suitable for them. This will be put on the agenda for discssion at next meeting.
NEXT MEETING :- The next meeting will be on Thursday 21st December, in The Wheelhouse at 12:00 noon.
Since this will be last meeting before Christmas it was hoped it would be light hearted with, perhaps, a game after business section.
Most members felt the venue was suitable (Unfortunately, opening time is 12 :00 and some had to wait outside until doors opened)
The meeting closed at approx. 13:00 hrs
