Bus Pass
Group Leader: David Gent (davidgentj16@hotmail.com)
Despite some rumours that seem to be floating around and questions being asked of me, I would like to confirm that the original BUS PASS GROUP is functioning and has continued to function throughout the whole time since the pandemic, Covid and lockdowns started. Our functioning has been limited to very much an ' ad hoc basis ' like many of the other U3A Groups. We have had to constantly review and revise our plans throughout the two years or so and consequently our function ability has not been of the same standard as previously. The monthly meeting/get-together was replaced by informal weekly sessions at Silchester Common and the ' pop-up ' cafe. Trips out were also very restricted and we have only had two using the national bus services - Devizes in September and Andover in November and also the Christmas lunch in December. We did however hire a vintage bus just for the group on a couple of occasions.
Following a meeting at the end of last week of four of us, we are now planning to try to get back to some form of what one might call normality or as we used to be before all the problems started.
Plans are being drawn up for a monthly trip out and currently our plans are -
January - 10 pin bowling - our usual January event
February - Police Museum and Green Control Tower - by cars
March - High Wycombe area
June - possible four night away stay in Weston-Super-Mare - details have been sent out to members but numbers not looking too good at present
August - Imber Village
Other months will be filled in when planning is finalised.
Group members would like the return of the monthly meeting and this is proving a bit of a problem at the moment. We are unable to return to the Pelican public house as they have changed their routines so we have cast the net to see where and what else is available that could offer - morning on the first Thursday in the month - ideally with coffee/tea available.
