Garden Visits

At the end of February 2024, we had our first Group Garden Visit.
We were fortunate to have dry and sunny weather for our car-share visit to Chippenham Park Gardens.
The gardens stretch over 40 acres and include formal and informal areas, perennial borders, lakes, canals, and woodland walks.
We were a little late for the swathes of snowdrops and winter aconites which all flowered earlier than usual this year, but we were overwhelmed by the varieties and colours of the vast expanse of hellebores, and the perfume of the edgworthias (paper bush) in full flower. It is a dramatic garden with imposing espaliered fruit trees, a huge arched colonnade of leylandii, and budding, pleached pear trees. There is a large millennium and gazebo sharing some of the humorous statutes. We particularly enjoyed the sculptures set in surprising places. A visit in the summer months would be rewarding judging by the shoots on the rose terrace and the plans for the kitchen garden.
