Welcome to Stour Valley U3A
Stour Valley, whose river is the border between Suffolk and Essex, is part of the National U3A network which provides people with opportunities to broaden their horizons by involving themselves in new learning experiences, meeting and making new friends, developing their skills and sharing their talents with others.
Our main purpose is to encourage lifelong learning for those who are no longer in full time employment, and emphasis is always placed on making learning active and fun as well as helping in developing friendships. We have a wide range of groups including language study, country walking, computer studies and garden and historic buildings visits.
In the main, membership is drawn from communities in the lower Stour Valley and adjacent areas; this includes Brantham, Capel St Mary, Dedham, Holbrook, Lawford, Manningtree, Raydon, Stratford St Mary and East Bergholt where our monthly meetings are held. We also have some members from Colchester and Ipswich.
If you wish to join Stour Valley U3A, just click on the link at the side of the page and print the Application Form.
The inaugural meeting of the SVU3A was held in October 1990 with 25 to 30 members and 3 Study Groups. Since then, the membership has grown to over 230, and there are now 18 Groups. We are affiliated to the Third Age Trust. The Annual Membership is £12 and this entitles members to attend the monthly lectures held on 2nd Wednesday of each month in The Constable Hall, Gandish Road, East Bergholt, CO7 6TP at 2.15 p.m. and to join any Groups in which they have an interest.
