Saturday, 2nd, 9th and 16th December 2023: Sleaford u3a held Pop-up Displays of Sleaford u3a Activities and the Benefits of Membership in a vacant Market Place shop unit at the Saturday Market in Sleaford , inviting members and prospective members to come along and chat with u3a volunteers about the benefits of u3a Membership and check out the range of activities, visits, meetings and social events that are planned for the wide range of Activity Groups, Visits and Social Events on offer.

Gardening Group - News Archive
Monday, 6th November 2023: Steve Lovell, who has 30 years experience of wildlife garden design and soft landscaping, gave an interesting and informing, illustrated talk about Encouraging Wildlife into our Gardens - landscaping and planting for benefitial bugs and bees, butterflies and moths, birds and hedgehogs, and of course... humans! - and not forgetting frogs in the pond... and the odd snake in the compost heap!
Monday, 2nd October 2023: Members enjoyed an entertaining presentation of 'An Orchid Tour of Madagascar' by Group member Phil Self who gave an insight into the country, its ecology, and the types of wild and cultivated orchids that grow there - including the commercially-grown Vanilla orchid that provides vanilla pods and extracts for culinary use.

British History Group - News Archive
Monday 27th November 2023: Twelve members enjoyed getting together for a Christmas Meal at the Barge & Bottle, Sleaford.
Monday 23rd October 2023: The Group enjoyed an interesting presentation about the German Bombardment of Scarborough in 1914, when the Group learned about the details of the naval bombardment, the extensive damage to buildings, and the civilian casualties - from brides-to-be (later buried in their wedding dress), to the only Boy Scout to be killed in World War I, and was followed by discussion of the raid and wider maritime events.
Monday 25th September 2023: 15 members explored the final part of the Life of Major Gen. Charles Gordon and events following his death at Khartoum 1885.

Church Visiting 1 and Church Visiting 2 Group - News Archive
November 2023: In order to offer more regular church visits through the year, the members and leaders of the two Church Visiting groups decided to combine into one group for the 2024 season visits.

Singing for Pleasure Group - News Archive
This friendly group meets regularly at the Great Hale Village Hall and has been singing through a wide repertoire of songs to suit all interests in sessions that include lots of singing, along with lots of chatting over tea, and biscuits, with everyone welcome to join with no audition.

Walking - Longer Walks Group - News Archive
The group meets on the 1st Friday of each Month and welcomes anyone to join for interesting 8-10 mile long walks in good company along paths and across fields, where stout footwear is essential.

Wine Appreciation Group - News Archive
Each monthly tasting has a different theme, and the group have recently been tasting an increasingly interesting variety of wines in higher and lower prices ranges from better- and lesser-known wine-producing regions around the world.

Shared Learning Projects - News Archive
2020/21: One of the activities that flourished during the pandemic was our participation in Shared Learning Projects, such as the Stukeley Memoirs - Shared Learning Project, where Sleaford u3a members worked with the Spalding Gentlemen\'s Society (SGS) for a year, transcribing five volumes written by William Stukeley describing meetings he attended at the Royal Society between 1740 and 1751. The Memoirs provide an entertaining first-hand account of a pivotal period in the history of science in Britain. As a narrative written for friends and fellow SGS members, they also provide insights into the politics and personalities of Britain's scientific community. Our members worked on Volume 1 which is available to view on the Spalding Gentlemen\'s Society website.

Coronavirus - News Archive
The Sleaford u3a group activities fully recommenced following the removal of Government imposed restrictions introduced as a consequence of the Covid pandemic. The Sleaford u3a Committee continue to review the situation and keep Group Leaders informed if guidance changes. Any such changes will be in accordance with local and national government, and National Health Service (NHS) guidance. Any specific precautionary actions that may be in place for any Group's activity will be available from the Group Leader.
