Sleaford

Welcome to Sleaford u3a

THE u3a
Founded over 40 years ago and with over 400,000 members nationally, the u3a movement in the United Kingdom aims to encourage groups of people in their “third age” to come together in interest groups to enjoy activities with others, to laugh and learn, perhaps to develop new hobbies, make new friends in active and social groups, or to continue to be active in subjects of interest to them.

The 'third age' is not defined by your age, but as that time in your life when you are no longer in full time employment and have the opportunity to undertake interesting activities or learning for its own sake.

There is NO MINIMUM or MAXIMUM AGE for membership, which is open to anyone who is no longer in full-time employment, whether in retirement, semi-retirement, working on a flexible or zero hours basis, or are caring for home or family members.

Across the UK, there are more than 1000 local u3a's, which are independent, registered charities, run 'by the members, for the members', receiving no government subsidies.

The u3a national body – the Third Age Trust - is the umbrella organisation for all the local u3a's in the UK, providing educational and administrative support. Click on this link to find out more Third Age Trust.

The aim is to Learn, Laugh and Live when not in full-time employment, so join us by visiting our JOIN page today.

SLEAFORD u3a
Founded in 1999 and affiliated to the Third Age Trust on 4th February 2000, we currently have c.400 members and more than 45 differnet interest groups and short courses covering a variety of activities and interests led by our dedicated volunteers.

The Sleaford u3a is run entirely by its members, with an elected Committee and serves Sleaford and its many beautiful surrounding villages. Our aim is to share educational, creative and leisure pursuits in a friendly, relaxed environment.

INTEREST GROUPS
We have a wide, and expanding, range of interest groups available for you to participate in, including Gardening, Music, Theatre, History, Art and Crafts, Food and Drink, Walking, Sports, Reading and Discussions groups, to mention but a few. We truly have something for everyone so why not take a few moments now to see what GROUPS are available to you.

Interest Groups meet regularly at a variety of venues, including members' homes, and local village and sports halls, and many also get out-and-about in the pursuit of their activities, with interesting visits.
For more details of Group activities and schedules visit our GROUPS page and GROUP CALENDAR and for notice of recent changes to any Group schedule, venue, or activities, please see our NEWS page.

SHORT COURSES
In addition to our regular interest groups we have run a number of very informative and enjoyable short courses on a variety of fascinating topics. See the COURSES page for full details. Even if a course isn't running at the moment it is worth contacting us to express an interest.

MEMBERS MEETINGS
We hold regular Open Members Meetings every two months, where we invite guest speakers to talk on a whole variety of topics. These sessions are an excellent opportunity to meet with friends and find out what is going on. See the GROUP CALENDAR for more details.

NEW MEMBERS COFFEE MORNINGS
New Members will be invited to attend a coffee morning to meet some of the Committee and Group Leaders, learn more about the groups within our Sleaford u3a and have an opportunity to ask any questions. Contact the Membership Coordinator to find out where and when the next Coffee Morning will take place.

SOCIAL EVENTS & OUTINGS
In addition we offer social events and outings to places of special interest throughout the year - often travelling by coach or by train, so Members do not need to drive. These include visits to the theatre, historic buildings, cathedrals, museums, gardens, heritage locations, and at least one quiz. There is also a Holiday planned most years for those interested in having a few relaxing days away. Visit the EVENTS page for details.

NEWSLETTER
To keep everyone up to date with all the news, group activities, outings and events, a Newsletter is sent every two months to all Members, with Email Bulletins being sent between those dates, whenever extra news is available. (Members may elect to pay towards the costs of a hard copy Newsletter being printed and sent to their home).

WEBSITE
News and Events are also updated regularly on the NEWS and EVENTS pages of the website, and members can access further information via the MEMBER PORTAL on the MEMBERS page.

FACEBOOK
We are also on FACEBOOK. Anyone may view the page but only u3a members may post content. To join our Facebook Group, go to the MEMBERS page.
