u3a in Scotland Summer School 2022


U3A in Scotland Summer School, Tuesday 16 – Thursday 18 August 2022

The postponed u3a in Scotland Summer School will be held at Stirling Court Hotel, on the beautiful campus of the University of Stirling. There will be a choice of accommodation on University of Stirling Campus: either at Stirling Court Hotel: classic ensuite double bedrooms (for single or double occupancy) or at Willow Court (University Guest Accommodation, a 15-minute walk or short car journey from Stirling Court Hotel): ensuite single rooms. Accessible rooms are available in Willow Court. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served in Stirling Court Hotel where there is also a bar with drinks and bar meals. Full board residential and day delegate rates are available. All arrangements will comply with Government coronavirus guidance.

Subject to demand, we plan to offer five courses:
• Ancient Civilisations of Mesoamerica: Olmec, Maya and Aztecs: Prof. Maria Chester, East Berwickshire u3a;
• Creative Writing: on Writing Short Stories: Gilly Beckett, East Berwickshire U3A;
• Exploring Poetry: Peter Holmes, Forth Valley u3a;
• Immunology - Our Immune System: Friend or Foe?: Prof. David I Stott, Bearsden and Milngavie u3a;
• A Great Leap Forward? Scottish History 1750-1850: Bill Bedborough, Dr Sheena Bedborough, Robert Hough, Forth Valley u3a

Participants choose one topic to study, in a group, for the two half-days and one full day of the Summer School. We also plan to offer a quiz, evening entertainment and an optional visit to the Wallace Monument and/or a walk in the Abbey Craigs woodlands.

If you are coming to Stirling, why not keep a couple of days before or after the Summer School to visit the local area with Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument, the Ochil Hills, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park and many other attractions?
