History Discussion

Co-ordinator: Grace Price

Meeting at 2 pm on 3rd Wednesday of the month in each others houses.

Our way of working is very informal - each member, without compulsion, chooses something that has interested them during the month and gives a very short talk on their findings to the rest of the small group. We try to focus our efforts on the 18th & 19th centuries but happily extend to the start of WW2. The range of items covered has been enormous and has included:

  • "Who were the Stagecoach Drivers?";
  • "A Winchelsea Romance";
  • "The story of Lawn Mowers and other everyday items";
  • "The History of the Potato and the Irish Famine";
  • "Windsor Chairs";
  • "Q-Ships in WW1";
  • and the march of events through the 19th and 20th centuries
