The heart of any U3A is the interest group. These are run by members with an enthusiasm for a subject, for members with a similar enthusiasm. Prior knowledge of a subject is not required - this is learning for fun.
Joining a group is entirely optional but also membership of more than one group is common. Groups usually meet once or twice a month at a local venue or arrange trips of interest to the group. Some groups may require extra funding for the venue, for trips or incidental expenses.
These are open to all members and are a great way to make new friends or stretch those muscles. Other groups may also arrange specialist trips and occasionally these are opened up to all members. Keep an eye open on the Events page for upcoming activities.
These are generally smaller in size and focus on more specific study areas. New Interest Groups are always welcome and during 2018 a Current Affairs group and a Jigsaw group were started.
If you have an interest in a subject contact the %Groups Coordinator% for help with advertising the idea and with assistance in setting up the group and finding a suitable venue. Come forward and make your idea happen.
RUGs (Really Useful Groups)
In order to keep your U3A running there are many activities that are carried out behind the scenes, including Committee work. Extra support with these roles is always needed - many hands make light work. Nothing too onerous so why not offer your support.
For more information about joining a group or forming a new group please meet the Group Secretary over a cup of tea in the hall after the speakers meetings
