Hitchin

Writing

We decide between ourselves what to write for the next month and try to write 200 - 600 words. At the meeting each author reads out their own work.

No previous experience is necessary - most people have never written before.

We meet at Park House in Hitchin on the first Friday morning of each month. New members are very welcome, please contact the group Leader via the Contacts page for more details.
For April he subject was Lost

Lost your key
All at sea
Lost your dog
In a fog
Lost your wallet
Someone’s got it
Lost your book
Have a look
Lost your place
Join the race
Lost your way
Awful day
Lost your child
Frantic wild
Lost your paper
What a caper
Lost your shoe
What a to do
Lost my thread
Empty head

and another one

After a short minibus transfer from downtown Srinagar to the starting point of the trek, we edged our way up the scree slope towards the distant Himalayan glacier.
Half a dozen tourists from different quarters of Western Europe, Sherpa-like guides, beaming and tough, pack horses laden with food and camping equipment for the forthcoming overnight, and yet more horses for us to mount.
After some distance gently rising alongside a teeming stream, my backside became more and more sore.
" I'll walk!" I declared.
This was October 1980 and the slowly fading afternoon light and intermittent icy showers took the pleasure out of the experience. The team strung out and I struggled to keep up.
I took a wrong track.
It wound more steeply upwards and eventually a decision had to be made.
Should I turn back? Hope to find the right track? Catch up and find their pitch for the night camp?
Better to tumble down through the deep forest on my right and hope.
Cut and bruised, I rushed headlong Al lowing no time for panic to seize me.
Near dusk I fell upon a forest cottage, a mountain refuge. Smoke issued from its chimney.
I was taken in and had it explained to me in broken English that I was lucky not to have been attacked by monkeys or consumed by a bear.
The following morning I was reunited with the tour group.
One lucky escape
