Countryside Studies

The group aims to provide information and education about many aspects of the countryside, investigating how man and nature are co-existing, and looking at some of the mistakes that have been made!
We meet monthly, normally on the second Tuesday in the month, visiting various sites of interest, ranging from nature reserves like our local Leasowes Nature Reserve, RSPB sites like Sandwell Valley and also the Slimbridge Wetland Centre. Examples of other interesting sites visited include Saltwells Nature Reserve, but this time following the Geological trail, and understanding how the extraction of clay has influenced the terrain and wildlife. On another occasion we looked at soil erosion problems on the Clent Hills, and how this is being tackled by improved water management.

The Countryside Studies Group was set up in 2022 by Nick Williams. Regrettably, Nick suffered a terminal illness, but expressed his wish that the group should continue, if at all possible. Martin Powell now runs the group, and it continues to thrive.
