Doncaster

WELCOME

Welcome to Doncaster U3A (Registered Charity Number 1074577)

For those retired but not tired of life. Join us on a voyage of enjoyment and discovery.

If you can answer ‘yes’ to any of the following, then Doncaster U3A may be for you:

 Are you retired from full time work?
 Do you want to meet other people with the same interests?
 Do you want to follow up on one of your interests or are you looking for a new interest of hobby?
 Are you lonely and in need of friendship?

All you need is spare time to learn and share social, cultural and intellectual experiences with like-minded people.

Doncaster U3A (DU3A) was first formed in 1994 and now has more than 350 members from a wide area around Doncaster. New members are always welcome. About 80 members meet at monthly General Meetings to socialise and listen to a topic of general interest given by a visiting speaker. The programme for General Meetings can be seen when you click on the EVENTS tab above. Prospective members are very welcome.

Our main activities centre on our Interest Groups. Currently we have 35 groups, with more in the pipe-line, offering a diverse range of activities. Some information about them can be found on the GROUPS page. Each group is run by its own members drawing upon their knowledge, experience, skills and enthusiasm. New groups are formed when there are sufficient members with a mutual interest and when a volunteer co-ordinator can be found. Any member can set up an interest group. The number of interest groups that a member may attend is generally only limited by the time that that member has available. Whatever your interest, we hope you will find it here but if not, we are always open to suggestions for expanding our range of groups and our Groups Co-ordinator will help you with this (use the CONTACT page to e-mail the Groups Co-ordinator). The only requirement is that you must be a fully paid-up member of the U3A to be able to take part in our group meetings or activities.

You can join at one of our monthly meetings. (see EVENTS for information about our monthly meetings). Even if you are not a member you may still come to a couple of meetings to find out more about us ('taster sessions') prior to committing to joining DU3A. Enquiries concerning membership may also be made through the Membership Secretary (see the CONTACT page). If you cannot attend a meeting, then a membership form can be sent to you if you include your e-mail address or home address in the email enquiry. For membership fees please see the MEMBERSHIP page. We look forward to hearing from you.

The U3A is an educational co-operative where all involved take part in the process of promoting lifelong learning through sharing with other members. The initials U3A stand for ‘University of the Third Age’. The first age is the period when one is in full time education. The second age relates to those with 'caring' or 'full time employment' responsibilities. The third age focuses on people who are no longer in full-time employment or raising a family. There is no minimum age. There are over 1,000 U3As and over 425,000 members within the UK. To find out more about the history and ethos of the U3A, the Third Age Trust website can be accessed by clicking on the U3A link on the top menu bar. The U3A national body, the Third Age Trust, provides educational and administrative support to all the U3As in the UK.
