Knit and Natter

The Knitting group that used to meet in The Dolphin Pub is to be reinstated as I am keen for us to knit or crochet articles for premature babies. These articles can be used at the hospital or taken home.

The pub landlord is happy for us to meet on a Thursday afternoon from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. The cost for each person will be a cup of coffee or a soft drink.

I hope that people will join me in making articles for premature babies. As I understand it each baby leaves the hospital with a ‘goody bag’ including a knitted blanket and a bonnet or beanie. I have only done a few so far but they have all been well received by the nurses at the William Harvey. For those who prefer to crochet I have the pattern for the Octopus that is put in the cot beside the babies to help soothe them. I will have examples of each at the first meeting.

We would operate as an Interest Sharing Group based on the Interest Sharing Group Convention. I will be happy to co-ordinate the group until it is up and running then it is possible that someone else may wish to take over as co-ordinator.
Of course you will be most welcome to join us if you have a project of your own and would just like company.

Cinema at the Gulbenkian

This is a new group that is able to see films that are not on general release and members will be able to discuss the films in a convivial atmosphere following the viewing.

Dear All
I have today cancelled our cinema trips until further notice. We must content ourselves with box sets and TV!! If anyone wants to chat about a film please do send to me and I will circulate to the group and if you give me the OK to share your email they can reply to you. We are going to have to be imaginative in providing each other support.
Once I get the OK Maureen and Elisabetta will start looking at future films to see together.
Keep fit
Kind Regards
Pam

Board Games

Following a successful Board Games summer school event, we are running TWO board games sessions as special interest events, with a view to establishing a regular group.
Board game playing is great for mental exercise and the social interaction benefits our wellbeing.
Games will include new games such as Azul, Splendour, Masquerade and Rolling Tides, as well as well known ones like Rummikub and Triominos.
These sessions will be held at a members house in Blean. Easy parking on drive or nearby, and on Triangle bus route Nos 4/6.

Cost £1 including Tea & Snacks

Contact: Kate Carver (nearlydancing@gmail.com) to check dates/times and to reserve a place, it is helpful to mention if you attended the summer school.

Social Bridge

This continues to thrive in our u3a.
The Coastal Group meets weekly on Thursday afternoons at Dunkirk. This group is more suitable for less experienced players.

The Canterbury Group meets weekly at Littlebourne on Friday afternoons. This group is more suitable for more experienced players.

Contact: Jane Dennett.

Both groups play duplicate bridge in a friendly welcoming atmosphere. At mid-session everything stops for tea and a chat.

But is it Art?

We are a small Interest Learning Group who meets roughly on a monthly basis, either on a Wednesday or Thursday, visiting mainly local galleries.
We like to explore a variety of genres and to challenge our perception of what is Art.
We usually follow up with a discussion on the exhibition over a cup of tea.
We have seen various exhibitions at the Beaney, Turner Contemporary and Beach Creative in Herne Bay.
In addition we support the Kavanagh Cinema in Herne Bay which has started to show films on famous artists.

This year I have decided to have set dates for our meetings. Our next meeting will be in February 2020. Meetings will be on the 2nd Thursday of each month, except for June which will be on the 3rd Thursday.

The dates will be as follows:

13th February
12th March
9th April
14th May
25th June (3rd Thursday)
9th July
13th August
10th September
8th October
12th November

There are to be two showings at the Kavanagh: Thursday 9th April showing Easter in Art and Thursday 9th July showing Freda Khalo. Tickets are £10.00 with a free coffee beforehand

As both of these are on the 2nd Thursday of the month, this will be our monthly meeting. Hopefully we can follow these showings with a lunch at one of the many cafes in Herne Bay.

Our June meeting will be on the 18th June, the 3rd Thursday and I am proposing a visit to the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy.

I hope that many of you will be able to join the group and the above events. New members always welcome.
