Beyond the Book

Date: 1st Wednesday of the Month
Time: 11am
Where: Oxford Room, White Hart Royal, Moreton-in-Marsh
Group Organiser: Sheila Thomas

A new reading/discussion group started in Moreton at the end of 2019, with the aim to talk about books, authors and related subjects (hence the name). We take it in turns to choose a book and our first three choices were novels:

  • “On the Black Hill” by Bruce Chatwin, which portrays the lives of twin brothers on their isolated upland farm.
  • A.J.Cronin’s 1937 classic “The Citadel” which is credited with laying the foundation of the NHS
  • “Exposure” by Helen Dunmore set in Britain at the height of the Cold War.

Once we resume our meetings we will be discussing “The Western Wind” by Samantha Harvey and “The Blanket of the Dark” by John Buchan.

Other ideas to go beyond the book are group visits to literary festivals, places associated with books/authors, historic/unusual libraries and ………

We would very much welcome two or three more people to join us in the future for friendly and lively discussions.
