We are now ready to accept annual membership applications to take effect from 1st October 2021


The u3a is open to anyone who is retired or semi-retired. There are no age limits and we welcome men and women, couples and singles. We are non-political and non-religious. The u3a welcomes everyone, is non-discriminatory, and we will always do our best to ensure we meet people’s individual needs as far as is practicable. The main activities of the u3a are meetings (either face-to-face or online) and members are expected to be able to look after themselves during meetings, or to be accompanied by someone to assist them, if necessary.

Third Age Magazine costs £3 per annum (included above where indicated) and is published five times a year by the Third Age Trust. For further details see the Newsletters page.

Separate applications are required by joint members.


Our new membership year commences on 1st October 2021. You should have received either an email or a letter inviting you to renew.
This is the easiest way for both you and us. Please login to our Beacon system using the link on the right hand side and then follow the link for renewals (Member Login).You may wish to right-click on the link to Open In New Tab. Joint members may include both subscriptions in a single payment.

Although payment for renewals utilises the PayPal system you do not need a PayPal account - you can pay via debit or credit card if you wish (just click on the guest option in PayPal). Once you have paid your subscription, you will receive a receipt from PayPal and a new membership card to print out and retain.

Please note:

  • You will need your 4-digit membership number. If you formerly had a membership number starting with a letter then please replace this with the number'1' (for example D244 is now 1244). If you are unsure of your membership number please email us on Membership Secretary
  • Your forename and surname are case sensitive. The postcode needs a space only between the 2 sections. If you get an error message saying 'postcode invalid' then please delete it and retype.
  • Gift Aid can make a valuable contribution to the club's finances. If you are a tax payer and therefore qualify then please tick the relevant box.

If you do not wish/are unable to renew online, please download a Renewal Form (Membership Form) to complete and send a cheque. This should be mailed to the Membership Secretary who will send you your receipt and membership card. Please send completed form, cheque (payable to Bourton & District u3a) and 'stamped self-addressed envelope' (for return of your membership card) to;

All online payments utilise the PayPal system using a credit card, debit card or PayPal account, if you have one.

If you do not wish to or cannot use the online procedure you may download the Membership Form to renew or join by post. Face-to-face renewals are temporarily suspended due to the Coronavirus restrictions.

Please send a Stamped Self-Addressed Envelope with your cheque and membership form so that we can send you your receipt and membership card which you will be asked to produce at meetings.

Please note that due to the current COVID restrictions some of our activities have been suspended. Please contact the relevant organisers of Groups you are interested in, before you join, to confirm that the Group is still active.


You can help us by boosting your subscription/donation by 25p for every £1 paid. To do this you must tick the box in the Gift Aid Declaration on the Membership Application form. Please read the form carefully and do not tick it unless you are sure you are entitled to. If you are unsure please contact the Treasurer or another committee member for clarification.


Members may attend one interest group in another u3a, within the Cotswold Link, without joining that u3a. Members wishing to attend two or more interest groups of another u3a must join as members. Similarly, a member of another u3a, within the Cotswold Link, may attend one of our interest groups without joining this U3A but must take up membership if they wish to do so.


Bourton & District u3a is part of the South West Region of the National u3a organisation and a member of the Cotswold Link, one of 25 based mainly in Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire. 'ICE' is a standard for In Case of Emergency ~ a procedure paramedics follow at the scene of an accident when they come across your cell phone. We may carry mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but only we know which numbers belong to our closest family or friends. If you store the number of a contact person(s) to be contacted in an emergency under the name 'ICE' (In Case Of Emergency), then Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff could quickly contact the right person by simply dialling your ICE number(s). To enter more than one contact name simply enter ICE 1, ICE 2 and ICE 3 etc. A great idea that will make a difference!
