Our u3a recently organised a CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and defibrillator course at Linskill which was attended by 26 of our members. The course was provided by Alex of the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust who demonstrated her passion for saving lives in an engaging, humorous and informative session. http://www.neas.nhs.uk/
Centred on the acronym DRABCD participants learned the sequence of giving life-saving care:
D - DANGER – make sure it is safe to approach the casualty
R – RESPONSE – shout at or tap prone casualty to see if they respond
A – check AIRWAY is clear
B – check they are BREATHING
C – perform chest COMPRESSIONS
D – apply DEFIBRILLATOR
