Wild Patch Group

We have been given the use of a raised bed, shed, polytunnel and greenhouse at a community allotment at the Red Machine allotments, just off Ettrick Grove.
The allotment has a pond at the far end and this becomes overgrown quickly if not looked after and the ground always wet due to a lack of drainage. So any member interested in conservation is welcome to join the group to help with controlling this habitat as a wildlife area. There is a Bee Haven on site looked after by one of our neighbours. We do have access to the Bee Haven shed which we hope to use more in the future.
There are several raised beds on the allotment being used by different community groups we share the locked shed, polytunnel and greenhouse with them so keys are stored in a lock box. The bed we have been allocated is in use with an established gooseberry bush cordoned at one end. We also use a second bed and help care for other beds and the borders which have several mature fruit trees. We have developed an area near the Bee Haven with small beds for herbs; raspberries; rhubarb, carrots, blueberries and strawberries.
Lots of work and fun for all, work is rewarded with a share of the produce!
We enjoy beverages and chat about gardening and plants for fun at the end of every session.
The group meets on Wednesdays 10.30 – 12noon at the Wild Patch throughout the year and also on some Mondays and Fridays during the summer months with additional visits to water during dry spells.

Wellies may be needed for site visits due to the poor drainage!
